Filmination, Japanese specialized trading company launched distribution of Japanese movies with MUBI, a curated streaming service, with more than 9M members around the globe
Filmination (https://filmination.jp/) is a Japanese trading company specialized in selling Japanese movies to global VODs (Subscription Video on Demand). At present, the share of Japanese films is extremely low globally, with approx.0.9% against total distribution in the EU and approx.1.7% (*1) in Asia. This is the simple background of why Hiroaki Kanamaru, CEO and the board members of Filmination started the company. The company’s mission is to discover and sell high-quality Japanese movies which have never been distributed globally (=New to VODs globally) to global VODs to increase the share of Japanese movies in the global movie market.
In August 2019, Filmination launched the distribution of Japanese movies with MUBI (https://www.mubi.com), a well-known global streaming service among movie fans, which offers a never-ending collection of hand-picked films.
This means the list offered by Filmination meets the quality bar of MUBI and new opportunity was opened for both Japanese movie makers such as producers, directors as well as global VODs to deliver Japanese movies which have never been distributed to global movie fans before.
Following the launch of distribution with MUBI, Filmination has renewed the list, released the brochure of Japanese movies and rolled out sales & marketing at full scale in August 2019.
