FILMINATION, Japan's first and only service (*1) to provide an online market specializing in Japanese films and videos for overseas movie lovers, is pleased to announce its latest film recommendations for June 2022. This time, we will introduce a selected lineup of Japanese films and videos theatrically released within the last 12 months on FILMINATION.

Under the Turquoise Sky directed by KENTARO (2021)

This Japanese-Mongolian-French co-production has been highly recognized at film festivals in Europe, received the FIPRESCI Award at the International Filmfestival Mannheim-Heidelberg and invited to the EnergaCAMERIMAGE International Film festival. A road movie in which souls resonate across borders and generations as they encounter their unknown selves on the Mongolian steppes. Starring Yuya Yagira, the youngest winner of the Best Actor award in the history of the Cannes Film Festival.

Moonlight Shadow directed by Edmund Yeo (2021)

The main character, Satsuki, loses her boyfriend in a car accident. Her lover's brother also lost his girlfriend in the same accident. This is a story of rebirth, depicting how people crawl up from the depths of despair. Starring Nana Komatsu, who received Rising Star Asia Award at the 18th New York Asian Film Festival (NYAFF)

Kusa no Hibiki directed by Hisashi Saito (2021)

A film adaptation of the novel of the same title by Yasushi Sato, a writer who died prematurely and is known for his works such as The Light Shines Only There and And Your Bird Can Sing, starring Masahiro Higashide of Netemo Sametemo. Kazuo Kudo returns to his hometown of Hakodate with his wife after suffering a mental imbalance. Nao (My Daddy) plays his wife Junko, who tries to understand Kazuo despite the anxiety of being in an unfamiliar place, and Shunsuke Daito (Tomorrow's Dining Table) plays Kazuo's friend who stays close to him. Hisashi Saito of Sora no Hitomi to Katatsumuri and Nothing Worrisome directed this film.

Skeleton Flowers directed by Rikiya Imaizumi (2021)

The film depicts the struggles and growth of a high school student, Yo, who was forced to grow up early due to his family environment, with his classmate, Riku, and their faint romantic feelings that don't seem to reach the level of love.

Fermentation Boys directed by Kazushi Miki (2022)

Toshiki Tateishi is an excellent cook who makes nuka-zuke pickles at home and is committed to a healthy diet, while Eito Konishi is eager to experience food culture in various regions of Japan. The two young actors will experience a one-day introductory trip to the site of fermented foods to learn once again about the ancient Japanese people's outstanding ingenuity and wisdom, and to reconsider what it means to live in a world that is inconvenient and closed to the outside world.
